Munster is a small village on the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal about 20 km south of Margate on the way to Port Edward. There is some confusion regarding Glenmore Beach, the village, which is within walking distance of Munster because the main beach in Munster is also called Glenmore beach.
The Glenmore beach in Munster is particularly attractive and is a very popular surfing and swimming spot as it is shark protected. The mouth of the Itongasi River also makes it perfect for launching ski-boats.
The Umtamvuma Nature Reserve near Port Edward is worth a visit – the dense forest canopy provides the ideal habitat for monkeys, small buck and prolific bird life and the open areas for the black-backed jackal. It is also the breeding ground for a colony of Cape vultures in the cliff faces bordering the river.
