Musicians can learn from the best with the bomb podcast

The Covid 19 pandemic has had a severe impact on the global music and entertainment community.

Artists and musicians have been struggling to get back on their feet and are constantly faced with the many pitfalls preventing them from achieving their music goals, simply because they may not understand all the aspects of the music industry.

South African production company StoneBear & Mayor Music, in association with PR specialists Starburst Promotions, have joined forces to give role-players (both experienced and inexperienced) in the music scene the opportunity to take their careers to the next level.

THE BOMB PODCAST (The Business Of Music Breakdown) is an initiative aimed at drawing the global music community together through empowering and inspirational content.

Hosted by StoneBear & Mayor’s award-winning producers and composers, Lukas de Beer and Helmut Meijer, this weekly podcast focuses on all aspects of the music industry, and features in-depth discussions on a broad range of topics with industry experts, artists, influencers, and more.

The concept for this initiative was born when Lukas was listening to an international podcast on cryptocurrency, which he found incredibly valuable. “I was amazed that such information was freely available and that anyone could tune in to be empowered with this knowledge,” he shares. “It struck me that there wasn’t anything similar out there for the music industry. I then pitched the idea to Helmut and we soon realized how valuable a podcast like this could be.”

Launched on 23 September 2021, the first episode of Season One featured the legendary international music publisher, John Fishlock.

“We have just published our sixth episode, featuring teen actress and singer, Daniah de Villiers. Lined-up before Christmas, we will also be speaking to the 2021 World Champion in Public Speaking Verity Price, and singer and neurologist, Etienne van der Walt, private styling consultant, Donna Kennedy-Meyer, Afro-pop artist and producer, Thando Mtyhobile and recent winner of ‘Boer Soek ’n Vrou’, René de Klerk, amongst others,” says Lukas.

This free podcast is published every Thursday on all major social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Season Two will start airing early in January 2022, and anyone who is interested in being a guest on THE BOMB PODCAST or who may have any suggestions for future content, can send an e-mail to thebomb@stonebearmayor.com.

StoneBear & Mayor is an acclaimed music and film music production company based in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape. The company was established in 2015 and boasts more than fifty years of collective experience in the music industry.

Starburst Promotions is one of the most prestigious publicity companies in South Africa. They have been representing some of the biggest local and international musicians, actors and entrepreneurs, as well as several award-winning films for more than a decade.

The team behind THE BOMB PODCAST believes that this platform provides an opportunity for multiple music industries to learn from one another.

“We tackle any issue related to the business of music, including technical, musical, spiritual, psychological, styling, financial, publishing, recording and relational issues, to name a few. Furthermore, we like to keep it fun and personal. We don’t want to shy away from the humanness of the industry and like to ask the tough questions that role-players battle with daily that those who listen out of interest will find inspiring and authentic,” they conclude.
