Ndumo Game Reserve has the highest bird count of any reserve in South Africa, with an astonishing 430 species. Here, the great Usuthu and Pongola rivers meet, and their confluence has formed an extensive and beautiful wetland area, for which the reserve is well-known.
The wetland pans make the reserve a richly rewarding area for game viewing, most notably for its populations of black and white rhino, as well as crocodiles. The prolific bird life here includes the Pell’s Fishing Owl, Broadbill and Southern Banded Snake Eagle.
Game viewing on one of the reserve’s land-rover tours and guided day-walks in the reserve are particularly enjoyable activities for guests.
The Ndumo Camp Resort has been upgraded and consists of 7 two-bed chalets with a patio and air conditioner. Bedding, crockery and cutlery are provided and there is a communal kitchen. The resort provides cooks if you provide the food.

Getting there: from Durban take the N2 going to Richard’s Bay. Continue on the N2 through Richard’s Bay and turn off at the R22 which goes through isiMangaliso Wetland Park. Continue on this road through the park and turn left at the T-junction. Continue on this road, which becomes the D1861 road, and follow the signs to the park entrance.
