
Ohrigstad is a small farming town situated at eastern end of the famous Abel Erasmus Pass on the R36 and is often referred to as the Gateway to the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga. The town is nestled in the lush Ohrigstad Valley that still has large open spaces between the sub-tropical fruit farms, and which offers scenic surrounds for many outdoors activities from fly-fishing to 4×4, to mountain-biking, hiking and horse-riding.
The Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserve is situated where the Ohrigstad River flows into the Blyde River, and this protected area is rich in wildlife, with many opportunities for game viewing.
Nearby attractions include Echo Caves, Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and the Bourke’s Luck Potholes.
Getting there: From Johannesburg take the N12 to Witbank. From Witbank take the the N4 through Belfast and exit on to the R540, continuing through Dullstroom to Lydenburg. Take the R36 north from Lydenburg to Ohrigstad via theAbel Erasmus Pass.
