The Emanzini Country Resort near Vrede in the north Eastern Free State is a perfect weekend getaway, with creature comforts, an half-olympic sized swimming pool, boating and watersports and various other outdoor activities.
Activities include horse-riding, game drives, quad biking, fishing, waterskiing and wakeboarding on the dam. You need to bring your own boat, but skiing equipment is available for hire, as are canoes.
There is a wetland around the dam, offering great birding and for the adventurous, a motorcross track will test your biking skills.
There are self catering chalets and camping facilities, concentrated around the dam.
Getting there: Emanzini is situated just outside Vrede on the R34 to Memel.
