The Palmiet River, in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, makes its way through pristine fynbos to the sea near Kleinmond, an hour’s drive from Cape Town. This calm stream in summer can change into a white water adventure with the winter rains.
Gravity Eco Adventures offers trips that give one an exciting experience in both seasons. At medium and high water levels, thrilling white water rafting in two-person inflatable ‘crocodiles’ or four person rafts is offered, and at low levels tubing trips on inflatable ‘gekos’ are offered. This innovative inflatable craft, specially developed for the Palmiet, allows you to either drift lazily along the pools and channels of the river,or, if used facing forward, an exciting way of tackling the small rapids.
The Palmiet River Experience is suitable for all ages and skill levels. Qualified and registered guides, with an intimate knowledge of the river and its environment, instruct you on how to steer your craft and accompany the trip. Since all of the rapids are optional, the trip is even suitable for those who prefer a more relaxed excursion. Combine the normal day trip with a half-day hike or abseil, to make up a full weekend of adventure.
All boating and safety equipment, full wetsuits and booties, food and transport to the entry site are included in the price.
Since this excursion takes place in a sensitive natural environment, group size is limited to 20 people per group with a maximum of 32 people per day (i.e. in two groups). The trip price includes a contribution to the Kogelberg Nature Reserve.
Gravity have a base camp in the heart of the reserve and offer rustic accommodation and basic meeting facilities. In addition, we offer specialised adventure programmes and team building games for corporate and school groups. We can also arrange alternative accommodation.
