Formerly one of the towns in the independent ‘Bantustan’ of Bophutatswana, Pampierstad is a rural community of around 35 000 people in the North West Privince, on the border with the Northern Cape – sometimes described as being in the Northern Cape due to recent municipal governance changes.
You won’t find all that much infrastructure in Pampierstad, but you will find quintessential rural South Africa, complete with sand roads, donkey carts, goats, pretty churches, small schools and colleges, roadside arts and crafts and friendly, accommodating people.
The area is quite scenic, particularly in the vicinity of the Taung Heritage site, only 7km away.
Getting there: Take the R506 west from Christiana, or the N18 south from Taung.
