Premier Diamond Mine Tours offer both surface and underground tours of the working Cullinan diamond mine.
Surface walking tour are about 1.5 – 2hrs in duration, and take you to various interesting points and lookouts in the surface operations of the mine. The tour also includes a 10 minute DVD on how diamonds are formed in the kimberlite mineral pipes that distinguish South African diamonds, and a jewellery and diamond cutting shop.
Underground mine tours include all of the above, but also take you into the working mine – deep beneath the surface into a ‘carrot shaped’ underground volcanic pipe with a surface area of 42ha, where the hardest substance known to man is found.
