The surrounding rolling grasslands and beautiful seasonal wildflowers are easily enjoyed on this easy to moderate hiking trail. Boasting Green Flag status by the Hiking Organisation of South Africa, the magnificent scenery will not disappoint.
Add waterfalls and pools to the scorecard, and you could be in for a great time out.
The trail takes place over two days. The first day of 9.5km starts from Stinkwood Chalet and takes about four hours to get to the destination of River Bed Camp. The trail follows a beautiful mountain stream up the mountainside and then meanders through open grassland with views of the kloof below. Expect two waterfalls and a bass dam en-route.
The second day’s hike is 6.7km and about 3 hours to return to the start.
Stinkhout Chalet has 12 beds with mattresses, a kitchen with a gas stove, a fridge, a hot shower, a flush toilet, and braai facilities. There is no electricity.
The River Bed Camp has an overnight Lapa covered with thatch and shade cloth. Camp mattresses, cold showers, toilets, and braai facilities.
Ribbokkloof farm is 34km from Middelburg, Mpumalanga. From Middelburg, take the R555 till you see the sign for Ribbokkloof Farm.
