It was the original indigenous people in the Cederberg Region who first discovered how to harvest, process and then enjoy Rooibos Tea. The tea grows wild in this area, 250km north of Cape Town, and no alternative source of supply for this unique product is available anywhere in the world.
From these early beginnings, a cottage industry developed. The Rooibos Control Board was then established to ensure the quality of production and the Rooibos industry took off, exporting tea around the world.
It is not only the taste of the tea that is so appealing, especially with all the flavours available today, but the naturally caffeine-free Rooibos is the perfect beverage for safe everyday consumption. It is also low in tannin, a substance which affects the body’s metabolism by interfering with its ability to absorb iron and protein. In addition, its high content of minerals and polyphenols helps to maintain healthy skin, teeth and bones, and metabolic processes. It is an ideal substitute for normal tea.
Rooibos Limited is the market leader with a market share of 90 – 95% in the local market and 50 – 60% internationally. Visit their factory at Rooibos Avenue, Clanwilliam, where you can enjoy an informative video, taste the teas or make a purchase.
