SAARKIE with new single, River Blues!

The popular and talented rock group, SAARKIE, just released their latest single, RIVER BLUES, which follows in the successful footsteps of their previous releases, Suidwes-Afrika, Vir Altyd and Langpad, that featured on the radio charts for many weeks.

Mjön van Blommestein, a member of the group, wrote this song about the Orange River, which has a double meaning of rowing, but also about life. After a month-long tour in the Cape, the girls went on a rowing experience on the Orange River on the border of Namibia.“The song is about obstacles on your path that you face in life, you never know where you are going, but you have a vision and idea of where you should go. You trust that it is beautiful on the other side and that all your hard work will be worth it at the end,” explains Mjön.

‘’We chose the 5-day rowing option and slept next to the river for four nights. It was incredibly hot and every morning we had breakfast at 05h00 and by 06h00 we were on the water again. We completed a distance of 50km in total. We met incredible people and at night we sat around the campfire, talking and singing. It was fantastic! The first two days we had a lot of wind from the front and we struggled tremendously and had to work very hard to get anywhere. We just knew we had to keep on rowing and enjoy ourselves in the process,” she adds.

A music video of RIVER BLUES, which is produced by Mjön (Girl With Hat Productions) was also released with the single. Mjön says the video consists of photos and videos of their experience on the Orange River. Memories, all the great people they met, local and international.

“Everyone needs people who support them and to help them grow, whether it is your parents, your pets, friends or your life partner. Sometimes life can feel like a continuous uphill struggle, but when you reach the other side, you realise it was worth all the effort. So keep the faith, because you will never be given a route/challenge which you cannot take on,” she concludes.
