Salt Rock, Dolphin Coast, KwaZulu-Natal

Salt Rock is one of the most popular holiday spots on the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal about forty minutes north of Durban and literally minutes away from the larger town of Ballito. The village owes its existence to the well-known Hulett family of sugar fame who founded the Salt Rock Hotel and then went on to develop the town.

It is perfectly situated for a family beach holiday with easy access to all of the attractions available on the North Coast. The beach is well known for its excellent tidal pool and protected beach – there are lifeguards on duty every day and some beautiful reefs just off-shore.

There are great fishing spots in this stretch of coastline at nearby Shaka’s Rock and Ballito. For the more serious fishermen read Fishing on the North Coast.

There are a number of outstanding golf courses on the Dolphin Coast including the top hundred courses at Umhlali, Mount Edgecombe and Princes Grant.

The nightlife in the village is not lacking with a number of restaurants, bars and nightclubs but if you do need to venture further afield you are within easy driving distance of the hustle and bustle of Ballito, Umhlanga and Durban
