Power cuts are having a major impact on food security in South Africa.

Hundreds of thousands of birds perished due to a cooling system that stopped working as a result of a power outage.

In December, KFC temporarily shut down some of its outlets as a result of a shortage of supply caused by power cuts.

Herman du Preez is one of the entrepreneurs being featured on Wednesday night’s Checkpoint whose business‘s survival is under threat of collapse due to blackouts.

“We are trying to produce food for South Africa I think it’s an honorable job that we are trying to do,” said Du Preez.

 

“But it’s just very difficult at this moment and it’s not a very uplifting job at the moment.”
