Scuba Diving at Miracle Waters, Brits

Miracle Waters, South AfricaLess than an hour’s drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, and only 5 minutes from the town of Brits, the Miracle Waters dive site in the Magaliesberg, North West Province, offers clear spring water in beautiful surrounds with magnificent views of the Magaliesberg mountain range – the oldest mountain range in the world.

The dive site is an old open cast chrome mine, filled and constantly replenished by a natural spring. The lake’s maximum depth is 33m, and the water is clear and fresh with a visibility of up to 10 metres.
There are some fish in the shallow areas, including Black Bass and Kurper, and there are some interesting wrecks to explore, including a helicopter, a few yachts, a swimming pool, a bus and an aeroplane among other bits and bobs (such as a bicycle) added for interest.

The dive site is easily access is easy via paved pathways, and there are five training platforms, making Miracle Waters an ideal dive site for beginners and dive training.

Facilities and services at Miracle Waters include a compressor room, cylinder hire, picnic and braai areas with tables, chalets, a camp site with ablutions and hot showers, a restaurant and a small shop selling basic supplies as well as dive gear. There is also a swimming pool and trampoline, and game enclosures where you can enjoy some game viewing – making Miracle Waters a dive site for the whole family to enjoy.

Getting there: Take the R512 south from Brits, turning right on to the R566 for Miracle Waters after about 2.5 km. The turn-off to Miracle Waters is another 2.7km, on the right hand side.
