Get Ready: ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 is Coming This December!
The wait is almost over! Fans of Squid Game, the global sensation that had everyone on the edge of their seats, can rejoice as Season 2 is set to premiere this December on Netflix. After the gripping and intense first season, the stakes are even higher, and the games, more dangerous.
What’s New?
Netflix recently dropped a teaser, leaving fans buzzing with anticipation. Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), the main character from season one, is making his much-anticipated return. Three years after his victory, Gi-hun re-enters the game—fuelled by a desire to bring down the sinister organization that orchestrates the deadly contests. His journey will be far from simple, and his return raises the question: can he stop the vicious cycle of violence, or will he be trapped in the game forever?
Along with Gi-hun, familiar faces will also return, including the mysterious and cold Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, who continues to oversee the deadly games. This time, new players are also stepping into the arena, including actors Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young, bringing even more excitement and unpredictability to the contest.
A New Chapter in a Global Phenomenon
The trailer, released on September 20, hints at bigger, deadlier games with the tagline: “The game never stops, are you ready to play?” It’s clear that fans are in for another thrilling ride. Season 2 is set to pick up where we left off—three years after Gi-hun’s victory. Now determined to dismantle the dark organization behind the Squid Game, he uses his newfound wealth to track down those responsible. But to put an end to the games, Gi-hun finds himself pulled back into the very world he hoped to destroy.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the mastermind behind the show as the executive producer, writer, and director, shared his excitement with fans, expressing that the journey has been surreal. He promised that Season 2 will be just as thrilling, if not more, than the first.
Record-Breaking Success
Squid Game took the world by storm when it first premiered, quickly becoming Netflix’s biggest original show debut. It garnered 14 Emmy nominations and won six awards, including Best Director and Best Actor for Lee Jung-jae. Fans also got a taste of the Squid Game universe in Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality spin-off where 456 contestants competed for an eye-popping $4.56 million, the biggest jackpot in TV history.
The success of both the original series and the reality spin-off has paved the way for even more Squid Game content, with Squid Game: The Challenge also renewed for another season.
