South Africa’s amended school calendar for 2021 released

The Department of Basic Education has finally published the updated academic calendar for the 2021 schooling year after public schools’ opening dates were delayed by several weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public schools will officially open on February 15 and the academic year is scheduled to end on December 15. A total of 192 school days are planned for the next 40 weeks, down from the previous 195.

The new term dates are:

– Term 1: February 15 – April 23

– Term 2: May 3 – July 9

– Term 3: July 26 – October 1

– Term 4: October 11 – December 15
