Tepelkop - focus of the Tepelkop Hiking Trail, Free State, South AfricaThe Tepelkop Hiking Trail near Fouriesberg, Clarens and Bethlehem in the Eastern Free State is one of the loveliest hiking easy walking trails the Free State Highlands offers – and that is lovely indeed.

Named for a distinctive sandstone formation called Tepelkop, this 2 day base camp trail consists of two day trails – one of 10km and one of 7km. Both trails explore the sandstone ridges on Tepelkop and are known or lush vegetation, beautiful sandstone formations and stunning views.

The Base Camp is fully equipped – to the ‘luxury’ point as far as hiking base camps go.

Getting there: From Fouriesberg, take the R26 north to a tiny farming hamlet called ‘Slabberts’. The base camp is at Slabberts.
