Tapestry from the ELC Art and Craft Centre, DundeeThe ELC Art and Craft Centre was established in 1962 by Swedish missionaries and artists, Ulla and Peder Gowenius. It is still the largest Swedish missionary centre in Southern Africa. Students from all over Southern Africa attend Fine Art School here, and the centre has been home to internationally acclaimed artists such as Pat Matula, John Muafangenjo and others.

The largest department here is the Weaving Department, which has been part of the centre since its inception in 1962. Today, acclaimed artists and expressionists continue their work in an impressive variety of studios.

Getting there: Rorke’s Drift is 45km from Dundee. From Dundee, take the R33 going towards Durban. Turn off at and follow the signs to Rorke’s Drift.
