Described as a ‘Tranquil Oasis’, the Francolin Creek luxury country venue is situated on a working farm and conservancy midway between Heilbron and Frankfort in the Northern Free State.
The Francolin Creek Conservancy is one of two conservancies in the Heilbron area created to preserve the unique grassland and historical heritage of the area.
There are several species of antelope on the conservancy, including gemsbok, springbok, waterbuck, blesbos, and hartebeest, and many species of water bird, including pheasant, guinea fowl, waterfowl and spur fowl. There is also a herd of zebra.
The Conservancy is named after the Francolin bird that occurs in abundance on the Conservancy in great numbers, and birding is one of the activities offered on the Conservancy. Other activities offered include game drives, controlled hunting and shooting, horse trails, hiking and walking trails, fishing for bass and mirror carp, mountain biking, 4×4 trails and tours of the area, including a tour to the Vegkop Battlefield and Museum.
The Conservancy also offers wine tastings at a cellar on the farm.
