The freedom of a stress free home

De-cluter your home

If you’re tired of clutter and feel like you are on the losing side when it comes to maintaining your home, it’s time for you to clean up and create a stress free home.

When you think of your home, how does it make you feel? Does it bring you peace every time you enter it? Are you inspired by the items in your space, do they bring you joy every time you notice them? Is your home calm and organised? Wouldn’t you love to be able to say yes to all these questions? The truth is, it’s easier than you think. Below are some simple tips to help you create a stress free home.

Anne McCall, vice president of Spas Fairmont Raffles Hotels International explains, “Chaos creates an immediate sense of being overwhelmed and buried by your life.”

If you have a garden, start by weeding and clearing it out. Plant some brightly coloured flowers, add some features and create user friendly pathways. Your balcony should be organised and decorated with some of your favourite pot plants and chimes, which are an ideal way to harmonise the area.

The entrance to you home has to be the most important area to consider. There is nothing worse than arriving home to a whole lot of unnecessary clutter in your garage or at the front door. Entrances tend to be the place where we dump things – shoes, jackets, umbrellas and mail.

Take time out to clean up your entrance area. Invest in a couple of cabinets and hooks or a stand for the coats and umbrellas. Baskets help with the clutter and adding some harmonising ornaments or a few memoirs or flowers, will be pleasing to the eye. Shoes can be placed neatly at the door on a rack or in the bottom of a cabinet.

Our kitchens are where we tend to spend most of our time. There is nothing worse than a cluttered, filthy kitchen, eventually you don’t even want to go in there. Keep the kitchen clean and brightly lit. Use containers to clear up clutter on the counter tops. Only a few items that you use on a daily basis should be visible, such as your toaster, Sharp knives etc.

The living room is where you’ll unwind in front of the TV, listen to music or entertain your guests. Keep the colour scheme light. Paint your cabinets and furnishings the same colour or similar to the walls, so that they disappear into it, giving the illusion of an open and larger space. Use lamps to create an ambiance instead of one set light and add some pot plants to bring the space to life.

De-cluter your home

The bedroom is where you replenish your energies and should be decorated in calming neutral colours. All your odds and ends can be kept in your bedside cabinets. Your dressing table should be tidy and only display the things you use on a daily basis. Turn off any electronics while you sleep as this interferes with the magnet field and your sleep.

De-cluter your home

A bathroom should be kept immaculately clean at all times. Use candles and aromatic oils or bubbles to create a harmonising and relaxing experience. Ensure there are clean towels, hand towels and toilet paper which can be easily restocked.

Take a look at all your possessions and ask yourself if these objects reflect you and the home you desire, if not, let them go. When we remove the old, we make space for the new, true you.
