The Kowie Hiking Trail is an 8 km two hour easy walking trail through the Kowie Nature Reserve – perfect for families or anyone wanting to enjoy a bit of the outdoors without too much strain and effort.
The trail moves through various habitats, from estuarine grassland to riverine and coastal bush, so you will quite a variety of bird species crossing your path.
Animals you may see include bushback and little duikers, vervet monkeys, tortoises, the clawless otter and various other small predators.
The reserve is open between 07h00 and 17h00, but there are campsites with toilet facilities and braai areas on the reserve, so you can make a day of it or stay overnight.
Getting there: Take the R67 out of Port Alfred in the direction of Grahamstown. Turn left at the SANTA turn off.
