The Midlands Meander is a famed area of South Africa for its arts and crafts. The Weaver’s Hut, which operates from the tiny rural village of Donnybrook, is one such institution that has produced quality, local crafts over the years, as well as providing much needed employment for local, poverty-stricken women.
Their product is a perfectly woven, traditional African rug, made from 100% pure wool. Designs are influenced by African, Eastern and Modern motifs, but are designed according client’s specifications. Entirely hand-made, clients are guaranteed the highest quality, and are sure not to be disappointed by the 180 colours used in the making of the rugs.
Getting there: from Durban, take the N3. Take Midmar/Howick offramp. Turn left at T-junction and left again at entrance to Howick. Just after bridge, turn first right into Morling St. Our shop is on the street level in the large wooden building on the left hand side, opposite the museum.
