Thrift Dam is the most easterly and largest of the new trout fisheries near Tarkastad in the Eastern Cape.
It is a legend amongst flyfishers, challenging but very rewarding. It lies at an altitude of 1700 metres on the uppermost reaches of the Black-Kei River and covers approximately 160 hectares when full. It has been very well stocked
As one flyfisher claims “I can confirm that Thrift Dam near Tarkastad is the best venue for really big rainbow and brown trout – my biggest to date is a 4.2kg hen taken at this venue.
