This groundbreaking open water swim event, a first of its kind in the country, is set to take place at the Durban Undersea Club on Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16.

Limited to just 50 competitors per event, the 1 Mile swim promises intense competition and exhilarating moments. Secure your spot now to be part of this unforgettable experience!

Glen Gore, a seasoned event organizer and professional multisport coach from Durban North, brings a wealth of experience to the race. With a track record of breaking records and winning accolades in swimming and triathlon, including medals at the SA Swimming Champs, Glen is no stranger to the thrill of competition. While this marks his debut at the Oceans 8 Charity Swim, Glen has excelled in numerous open water swim events, showcasing his endurance and passion for the sport. As an Arena Ambassador, he’s committed to making a difference in charity and conservation efforts, stating, “I’m dedicated to preserving our oceans and ensuring they remain free from pollution.”

Joining Glen is fellow triathlete Jane Brewer, hailing from Durban North. With an impressive resume boasting 5 Ironmans, numerous 70.3 events including World Champs, the Torpedo Swim Run, and many Midmar Miles, Jane is a force to be reckoned with in the swimming world. As a swim specialist retailer and Arena Ambassador, she brings a unique perspective to the competition. Expressing her excitement for the Oceans 8 Charity Swim, Jane highlights the event’s dual focus on fundraising and personal challenge, stating, “It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to push their limits while supporting important causes.”

The Oceans 8 Charity Swim, initiated by founding charities such as Duzi Umngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT), the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Project Rhino, and Singakwenza Early Childhood Education, aims to provide ongoing support to these vital organizations. Last year’s event raised an impressive amount for charity, and this year’s organizers are aiming to double that impact.

Participants in the 1 Mile event will compete in age categories, with entry fees contributing to fundraising efforts. Additionally, each swimmer is encouraged to raise funds, with proceeds going to 10 invitational KwaZulu-Natal charities, including Adopt-a-River, Caversham Education Institute, CROW – The Centre for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, and others.

For those looking for a more challenging swim, the Oceans 8 Charity Swim also features the 4 Miler and 8 Miler competitions, catering to different skill levels and fundraising goals.
