Uvongo is a small resort village just north of Margate and south of Shelly Beach on the Hibiscus Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The Ivungu River waterfall cascading over the cliff has created one of the deepest lagoons in the country and the towering cliffs shelter the beach.
The protected beach makes for perfect bathing and the lagoon is great for boating and fishing. There is a footpath running alongside the river which will take you to the Uvongo Nature Reserve. The tidal pool situated on shaded lawns is a great picnic spot and ideal for the kids to paddle around safely.
The Uvongo Bird Park is a must see – after strolling through the aviaries the kids can enjoy themselves in the play park while the adults relax with a refreshing drink. There is a 9 hole golf course nearby and the more serious golfer is spoiled for choice at Margate Country Club, the Port Shepstone Golf Club or the superb San Lameer Golf Course further south.
There is a full range of accommodation and restaurants available in Uvongo with magnificent views from atop the cliffs.
