The Wag-‘n-Bietjie Eco Farm is an outdoors activities paradise in the Koedoesdraai Conservancy on the banks of the Vaal River. The eco -farm is a working cattle ranch offering accommodation and a range of adventure and team activities in beautiful rural and natural surroundings that includes riverine thornbush and rolling grasslands.
The main activity is fly-fishing, but other activities include a 2 day hiking trail, birding trails, horse-riding, bow hunting , game drives and paintball.
Animals that can be seen on the conservancy include magnificent waterbuck, steenbok and other antelope, and aardvark. There are also many bird species for birding enthusiasts to enjoy, including Goliath Heron, Fish Eagles and Martial Eagles.
The Conservancy is a well known fly fishing hotspot, with more than 15km of Vaal waterway with “riffles and rapids…heaps of glides, pools and open water”. The prime species are small-mouth and large-mouth yellowfish, with ‘trophy fish’ over 6kg caught regularly.
Please note that Wag n Bietjie is actively involved with Yellowfish conservation, so all fishing done at this time is catch and release.
There is also a Day Spa on the farm.
Getting there: From Bothaville take the Klerksdorp Rd to the 4-way stop, where you turn left on to Leeudoringstad Rd. After 9km, turn right on to a dirt road and travel a further 28km along this road till you see the sign for Wag-n-Bietjie on your left.
