Sightseeing in the quaint Free State Highlands towns
along the Lesotho border involves sandstone buildings, sandstone overhangs, San Rock Art, wildlife and a lot of pretty mountain and foothill vistas. Much of this kind of sightseeing will be done on foot, in the course of a walking tour or hike, on a bike, or on horse-back, but the ‘Cherry Town’ of Ficksburg offers something a little different…
The White Mischief river boat is a floating Cigar Bar and Restaurant that will take you along the Meulspruit Dam on the Thaba Sediba Private Nature Reserve bordering Ficksburg while you enjoy a selection of excellent whiskeys, wines, liqueurs and cherry cigars. It’s a bit more rarified than your average ‘booze cruise’ and the lovely scenery en-route is typical of the Highlands area. A gourmet lunch is served on a Shoreside Lapa. Take binoculars for animal and bird spotting.
The cruise is topped off by a short game drive.
This is really one for whiskey lovers…
Getting there: The White Mischief is moored 5km from Ficksburg on the Meulspruit Dam.
