Winklespruit, South Coast, KwaZulu-Natal

Winklespruit, South Coast, KwaZulu-NatalWinklespruit is a small seaside resort village just south of Amanzimtoti on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. As with most of the South Coast it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between a true village and a suburb and Winklespruit is no exception. The area is often thought to be a suburb of Kingsburgh and it is part of a long continuum of beautiful South Coast beaches from Amanzimtoti to Karridene further south. Winklespruit actually lies at the Illovo River Mouth although Illovo Beach itself has its own identity.

The lush sub-tropical vegetation for which this coastline is so famous is what characterizes Winklespruit Beach – pristine golden sandy beaches with shark protection and a tidal pool making it the perfect spot for sun-worshipping families. The surfing conditions are also excellent and the lagoon is ideal for boating and for kiddies.

This area is only about 20 km from Durban and most of the attractions along the South Coast are within easy driving distance. Some of the best golf courses can be found nearby at Amanzimtoti and Umkomaas and a little further, two of the top rated courses in the South Africa – Selborne and Umdoni Park. There are numerous nature reserves and birding spots close by and the famous Aliwal Shoal, accessible from Umkomaas is one of the top dive sites in the world.
