When thinking of a special night out, one often is in a quandary as to which restaurant to choose. Restaurant week alone had 125 top restaurants competing, so how does a mere mortal keep up, unless you are a food writer or gourmand.
We have brought you the results of Restaurant Week South Africa 2014 which could add a couple of special places to your mental list next time you are visiting Cape Town or Hermanus.
The Award Winners
Restaurant Week South Africa 2014 has come to an end. After last year’s introduction, this second edition saw a huge growth with nearly 10,000 couverts being served at 125 of SA’s top restaurants. After processing all reviews, ratings and votes, the organizers are proud to announce this year’s winners of The Food24 Award for Best Restaurant and The Food Network Award for Best Dish:

Buitenverwachting in Constantia!
We are happy to announce that Buitenverwachting in Constantia, Cape Town has been awarded the Food24 Award for Best Restaurant of Restaurant Week 2014! Buitenverwachting had the highest number of reviews and highest overall score of all participating restaurants with an 8.5 for service, 8.9 for cuisine and 8.2 for atmosphere. The award is based on the ratio between the highest overall rating versus the number of reviews.
- The Food Network Award for Best Dish of Restaurant Week 2014:
The Restaurant at Newton Johnson in Hermanus!
The Restaurant at Newton Johnson has been awarded the Food Network Award for Best Dish of Restaurant Week 2014 for chef Eric Bulpitt’s colourful organic vegetable salad with a selection of raw, pickled and charred vegetables and herbs. Diners were asked to share pictures of the dish that wowed them the most during Restaurant Week. In the end, 15 pictures of beautiful dishes were nominated and uploaded to Facebook, where an exciting race developed between The Restaurant at Newton Johnson (201 likes), The Black Bamboo (156 likes) and Grande Provence (48).

Durbanville Hills in Cape Town!
The honorable mention goes to Durbanville Hills, who provided their guests an outstanding Restaurant Week experience, as proven by the reviews, the high overall score of ratings and the exciting Restaurant Week menu they offered.
